When people cheat in video games, it sucks. It has a way of sucking the joy out of the experience for the other players. However, when there’s real money to potentially be made in a game, cheating can feel like a more serious offense. For those worried about exploits, bots and hacks in Diablo III, you’ll be happy to know that Blizzard has grabbed their famous banhammer, and are preparing to swing.
It’s interesting that the company has waited this long to issue suspensions and bans for players who cheat their way to success. One of the most likely explanations is that they were simply waiting and collecting data, so as to be sure that they were indeed banning cheaters, and not legitimate players.
There’s no word on just how soon they will be swinging their banhammer of justice, other than “in the near future.” I imagine that we’ll know when they do, as the official forums will no doubt be flooded with players demanding to know why they can’t access their game.
