Diablo III Act 1 Restriction Lifted

When patch 1.0.3 was released, many people who had bought the game online after the patch was applied found that they were stuck in the first act and could only level till 13. At first it was thought to be a problem with the patch, until it was revealed that it was intentionally done by Blizzard so that they could verify the credit card information being used by the account. While the restriction would only be in place for up to 72 hours, people were furious at the fact that they were locked out of content that they had purchased.

Well, it looks like Blizzard has softened their approach a little bit, as they’ve now announced that players who purchase the game online will no longer be capped at level 13 and Act I. Now while that particular restriction has been lifted, Blizzard did say that there would be other restrictions that would remain in place until the accounts credit card had been verified. You can find the list of restrictions below:

  • No public game access for unverified digital purchasers
  • No auction house access (real-money or gold) for unverified digital purchasers
  • Unverified digital purchasers cannot trade items or drop items for other players to receive
  • Unverified digital purchasers are not able to chat in any public or game channels
  • Unverified digital purchasers cannot attach a custom message to friend requests, but they can send/accept friend requests, and play with their friends
  • Global Play is not available for unverified digital purchasers

Blizzard said that the restrictions are in place in order to deter credit card fraud, which will help reduce gold spamming in turn. I can’t necessarily say that I blame Blizzard for putting some measures like this, though I am glad that they’ll let people essentially play the whole game now.
