Diablo III Real Money Auction House Requires Authenticator

The Real Money Auction House is one of the prime features of Diablo III. It also hasn’t been released to the public yet despite the fact that the game has been out for nearly a month. But considering how Blizzard needs to get this feature to be as safe as possible, so prevent people from being exploited and losing their money, it’s no wonder why Blizzard is taking its time in releasing the feature.

Right now, if you try to access the Real Money Auction House it’ll say that it will become available on June 12th, and this time it looks like it will really happen. Blizzard announced on Friday that starting immediately, in order to add money to your Battle.net Balance, you will need an authenticator attached to your account. The authenticator will be required for all money transactions, including sending the proceeds of the auction house to your Battle.net Balance.

If you already had money on your account before the requirement, you’ll still be able to use it to make purchases on Battle.net and in the auction house without adding an authenticator. Overall, this might be a slightly frustrating step for some people, but in the end it makes sense to require this kind of security. With the massive amount of money that will likely be changing hands on a daily basis, you can’t just rely on a simple username-and-password system to keep it all safe. And while there is a physical authenticator that you can buy for $6.50, you are able to download a free authenticator for your smart phone or iPod Touch.
