Dota 2 Will Be Free To Play, Compatible With Steam Workshop

It has been long assumed that Dota 2 will be a free-to-play game. With competitor League of Legends working off the same model, it’s hard to justify a price tag on the title. Well Valve has finally come out and said exactly what we have all been thinking, and announced a couple other interesting tidbits.

The first of the two big announcements is the Dota Store. This will be the place you can go to purchase gear to customize your heroes. You won’t actually be buying any heroes here, as all of them will be available for free. Also, the things you can purchase with real money will in no way affect your gameplay. The items in the store will all be purely cosmetic in nature.

Valve also announced that Dota 2 is part of the Steam Workshop. This means that you can design content for the game, and upload it. It will then be taken and added to the Dota Store, where it will be sold (with a cut of the profit going in your pocket). They also put up a FAQ, which should answer a variety of your questions regarding these announcements.
