In Game Live Streaming on the Horizon [E3 2012]

TwitchTV , the leading video game broadcasting network announced that they would be teaming up with Paradox Interactive, the Swedish game publisher and company behind the online distributor GamersGate. The new powerhouse will be the first to bring live in-game streaming to the Twitch online community with access via the game’s dashboard. The first title to showcase this new feature will be Paradox’s upcoming title The Showdown Effect. Due to the massive growth in the streaming community it was only a matter of time before someone brought it to the next level.
“We’ve seen explosive growth in the live broadcasting industry which is happening organically with gamers and strategically with publishers, both of which recognize that gaming has evolved into a spectator phenomenon,” said Emmett Shear, CEO of TwitchTV. “Enabling players to stream their games to TwitchTV with a quick click – such as what Paradox Interactive is doing with The Showdown Effect – opens the door even wider to potential streamers in the gaming community.”
Paradox is one of the leaders in both the strategy and horror genres, producing such games as Crusader Kings, Magicka, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It appears the company is revving up for a major year with their most ambitious lineup of titles since they were founded. The Showdown Effect being a major jump for the company who will be alongside Twitch as they pioneer the new streaming features.
Other than Paradox, Twitch is also teaming up with several hardware and software publishers for additional integration projects. Only time will tell how this new approach will affect the future of PC gaming. We could be seeing the start of a new standard in the market, which could spawn a stream of contenders from the online community.
