This makes me want to bang my head against a wall. Yes, we all get that scantily clad ladies are going to get attention, but the fact that this is a real thing, and now it’s being made into a game? Ugh. These are terrible role models, and now we’re making it into a video game. Oh joy.
Of course the Lingerie Football League is the “fastest growing sports league” right now. It’s a bunch of women who are well-built (without being too muscle-y, because that’s a masculine trait), who play regular football in underwear/swimsuit attire. Oh! And they wear protective padding, alongside one-fourth of a football jersey (basically enough material to cover up their shoulder pads). Osaka based video game developer Yuke is banking on the current trend, and has taken up the license for the game. Their reasoning?
We at YUKE’S feel that there is incredible momentum building behind the LFL and that the sport is perfectly positioned to become the next big franchise in the gaming world.
The game will be 7 v 7 indoor American football. There will be 12 teams in the start, with an additional 14 over the next four years. The game will probably be mediocre, other than the graphics, which will be the main “asset”.
While I am definitely aware that a bunch of model-types playing a sport in sexy underwear is appealing to many people, it’s not exactly painting a great light for women. There have been a lot of issues floating around for ladies in and out of the gaming world lately, and this is just another straw on the camel’s back. If we had a game where buff guys played rugby in scanty clothes, it might be a more even playing field, but I highly doubt that’s going to happen.
