Final Fantasy III Will Be A Launch Title For Ouya

I haven’t commented much on the new Android OS-based Ouya console. I’ve done some research, read some articles, and even checked out the Kickstarter page for the gadget which already has more than five times the original asking amount. The console is based off of the free-to-play mechanic, allowing developers to put freeware titles on the Ouya, and players can take their games with them. I don’t know how “with it” I am about the project, but it looks like Square Enix is ready to hop aboard.

The developer has just announced that it will be releasing Final Fantasy III as a launch title for the new Ouya console in March 2013. On top of this the company also said they’d be issuing more content in the future for the console.

Final Fantasy III originally launched for the NES in 1990. It was then ported to the DS back in 2006. The game has more recently received a port for the Android OS last month, and this is the version that gamers will be getting when it hits Ouya.

Ouya is making headlines, and they just signed a huge deal with Onlive. Their Kickstarter has 8 more days to go and they’ve already hit $5.8 million. Square Enix is the first major third-party publisher to come out and back the console, which means others will surely want to hop on the train.
