Quitting Is Now Highly Discouraged In TF2’s Mann Vs. Machine

Quitters never win, but in many games quitters never lose either. That’s the problem Valve seems to be having in Team Fortress 2’s Mann vs. Machine mode, where players are quitting prematurely whenever the chips are down. That’s why Valve has announced that quitters will now be penalized for abandoning a game.

Basically, if you’re playing a Mann Up game on an official server and you haven’t played through a single wave to completion (or failure), and there are 5 or more people on the server (including yourself) you could face penalties for abandoning a game. The first few times it happens you won’t have anything to worry about. After all, sometimes you get disconnected, or life gets in the way and that 3 hours you thought you had to game just went out the window. Start doing it too often, however, and you’ll receive a notice that you will be penalized.

If you are penalized you’ll be placed in a low-priority pool. This means that when you try to join a game it’s going to take a bit longer to connect to the server, as the higher priority players are going to be serviced first. However, the effects are temporary, so eventually you’ll be taken out of the low-priority pool, as long as you’ve learned your lesson.
