Valve Working To Put DotA 2 On Tablets

During the VGAs this past weekend Valve head Gabe Newell was asked if the company was working on any new software projects of any interest, and he offered up a somewhat surprising answer. Newell replied, explaining that the developer was, in fact, working on something quite interesting – getting DotA 2 to run on tablets. He’s completely serious about it, too.

“We were working on getting DotA 2 running on some tablets. That ended up being kind of a disappointment. But the good news is that tablets are getting faster very quickly, so I think we’ll get the kind of performance we want and other game developers want in the near future.”

With the release of the Micrsoft Surface tablet and Windows 8, Newell’s plans may soon come to fruition. I don’t know exactly how DotA 2 would run on that type of platform, but it certainly would be interesting. The game is very fast-paced, and perhaps making use of tapping and moving all about the screen would offer more maneuverability when it’s needed most?

Either way, it’s good to hear that Valve is working with some ideas for the future. Of course the community is still crying out about Half-Life 3, but the developer has to have other things under the hood right? Right?
