Rock Band DLC Ending April 2nd

Over the last several years DLC has really grown and matured, and in fact the act of developing and releasing DLC has become routine. A game is released, sometimes with some sort of Day One DLC, and for the next year, maybe 2, the developer of the game will release some DLC every few months. That’s why it’s so amazing that the Rock Band games have had constant DLC every week for over 5 years!

However, all good things must come to an end. Due to “several new titles in development”, Harmonix will no longer put out any new bits of DLC after April 2nd. They will still be releasing new content every week up until that point, including the “remaining tracks of RB Blitz, several Pro guitar upgrades, and a handful of artists who have not yet appeared in Rock Band.”

All in all, over 4,000 songs have been added to the game through DLC. In an effort to thank their fans for the years of support, Harmonix is continuing their 50% off sale of over 1,100 songs. Considering the sheer number of songs that they’ve released as DLC over the years, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the reason why they’re ending development on DLC has to do with the fact that there’s no interesting songs left to put into the game!
